In this picture the coffered ceiling only has millwork   on the cross beams the tray or ceiling part stays a more neutral  colour. Heavy cornice moulding sits on paneling over a detailed fireplace, library and display areas.

Finishing off walls or cabinets to ceilings most often is done with the use of cornice work. Many variations of applying these mouldings shown in the picture, some are built up cornices that give a grandeur effect these can be made up of many separate mouldings applied on top or above the other.
